9 Grader Nord of the equator we find the city of Jaffna in Sri Lanka, where half of the members of the band is from.
The quartet consisting of the sisters Mira and Dipha Thiruchelvam, Jakob Sønnesyn and Jakob Sisselson Hamre offers a mix of a variety of genres, such as Baila, flamenco, jazz and karnatic music.
With instruments such as bamboo flute and cajon, 9 Grader Nord wants to take the audience on a musical journey closer to instincts. The vision is to challenge the audience's musical diet by serving foreign tones. They have enchanted the audience at festivals all over the country, including Wild Wild West, Vinjerock, Night Jazz, Bergenfest, Trænafestivalen, Oslo Jazzfestival, and the SPOT festival in Aarhus. The band was also awarded the Subject Award for Artist of the Year in 2019.
In November 2019, they released the record debut «Jaffna», which went straight home to both fans and reviewers.
